Original Mongolian Yurt

Some may call this procedure having a siesta, I can assure you I was testing the base was level

Khana Wall trellis and door in place. The Khana is made from traditionally ‘steam bent’ willow wood, which is fastened together using traditional rawhide

John and Dave held the roof crown in place whilst me and Julie inserted the roof poles and placed the end of each pole on top of the Khana

The next layer is a sheep’s wool felt insulation, suitable for year-round use In the UK. This is then covered with the decorative outer wall which is held in place by traditional horsehair straps.

The Insulated roof layer is now placed on. Not only does this provide warmth in the colder months but also the yurt remains cool in the warmer months

The final part of the Yurt, the roof is now placed on. All that's left to do is to paint the door.

  And make it look welcoming!

Warm lighting, fire, cosy bed and chairs make for a comfortable stay.
